    V28 Awards 2024 – Winners

The jury has decided and I’m happy to announce the three category winners of the V28 Awards 2024, the first Vignette28 awards so far.

It has been an honour to work with the jury and I’m thankful for all participants. The entries were all so full of creativity and skills on so many different levels.

    Congratulations to everyone!

    Winner Deeper Perspective

    Invasion by Simon Schnitzler

Immartus Secundus had felt the change long before ist source became apparent. The climate had gone crazy warm and humid, the fauna followed. When the war began, the invasion had been long started. After the first few days had been bombardment after bombardment, they had eventually send organisms to the ground to herd the survivors together.

  • V28 Awards 2024 – Juror Marcus

Introducing the jurors of the V28 Awards 2024. Today: Marcus.

what interests you in art in general

I’m drawn to Art that tells a story. The trouble is, the stories I’m most interested in are about Dragons, Wizards, Space Lasers, Prescient Worms, or some other nonsense …

what do you find intriguing in an art piece

I love the capturing of realism in miniature – grit, gravity and life, whether it’s a fantastical subject, or something mundane, I love any piece of work that really considers the weight and substance of its subject.

something personal and/ or a fun fact

I’ve been into Miniatures for near enough my whole adult life, and a fair chunk of childhood too. Previously I worked in Film & Video, a job I loved, but ultimately found too intense to maintain. After leaving that world behind, Miniature Photography became an important outlet for my creative energy. Since then, I’ve joined the team Bestiarum Games and I’m able to pursue my passion for Miniature Photography as a part of my full time career!

  • V28 Awards 2024 – Juror Laurence

Introducing the jurors of the V28 Awards 2024. Today: Laurence.

what interests you in art in general

Art is a story I can digest at a glance and then nibble at for the rest of my life.

what do you find intriguing in an art piece

Bold use of colours. Interesting ways of depicting light. An instant emotional connection, gut feeling of goodness, terror, joy. Materials I haven’t considered using, or a new use of materials I have. Detail.

something personal and/ or a fun fact

When I worked on a fruit farm we pruned the apple and pear trees over the winter, usually at different ends of the farm, I spent a month pruning Cox-Pippins down by a frozen pond. The earth was frozen solid. Each day as I arrived at the bottom of one row and began to work my way up a Robin would fly over, and spend the day with me. I’d chat merrily to it and listen to it sing. It was a lonely existence and I invested a lot in the imaginary friendship I had with the Robin. One day I realised that the heavy boots I wore were breaking up the ground so the Robin could find worms. I felt oddly betrayed. A decade later I read that Robins follow wild boar and deer through the woods as they break up the earth, and it gave me much peace of mind.

  • V28 Awards 2024 – Juror Corina

Introducing the jurors of the V28 Awards 2024. Today: Corina.

I studied graphic design and am very happy to be working in marketing in the private sector after my time at the agency in Berlin. I also give creative painting courses and have discovered my talent for giving others the space for their creativity and motivating them. Art has always been a part of me. I am visually inclined and fascinated by shapes and colors. Art can be so wonderfully different!

what interests you in art in general

There can be a lot that fascinates me about a work of art and nothing about it. Just like on a person, right? It can be the presentation itself or perhaps the approach and the story behind it.

what do you find intriguing in an art piece

I value being open to new things, whether it’s in dealing with people, new technologies, or developments.

  • V28 Awards 2024 – Juror Max

Introducing the jurors of the V28 Awards 2024. Today: Max.

what interests you in art in general

I’m a designer, have run a design agency and a comics company. My first miniatures were painted in the 80s and I’m a recent returnee to the hobby in the last few years, especially the kitbashing. I’m interested in figures that imply or afford a story from their appearance, and scenes that imply narrative.

what do you find intriguing in an art piece

I like vignettes that are a single captured moment in a larger narrative. The artist needs to create clues and hints to the overall story, that are read so as to build that story in the viewers mind. A bit like comics, where the page and panel architecture directs you to read and absorb information in the order that tells the story best.

something personal and/ or a fun fact

I used to collect outsider art/ thrift store paintings but they were too many and too crazy and I had to release them back into the wild.
